Our cats, our family

A passion, a family, and a different approach to breeding.

Sendas Antiguas is a small, family-run cattery based in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, born out of our love for cats and, in particular, for an extraordinary breed like the Maine Coon. To us, our cats are more than just breeding cats. They are family. They share our home, our routines and our everyday lives, and each one holds a special place in our hearts.

We breed with the belief that excellence is about more than a cat’s appearance. It lies in the balance between health, structure, breed type, beauty, temperament and well-being.

Growing up in a family

Our cats live with us, and our kittens are born and raised in a family environment, surrounded by people, different stimuli and new experiences from their very first days.

We do not use cages as a form of accommodation. Our cats enjoy the freedom of our home and also have access to a spacious enclosure specially designed for them, as well as a garden area prepared for them to safely enjoy the outdoors.

We want them to be free to run, play, explore, rest and socialise at their own pace.

We believe that a cat raised in a stable, safe and enriching environment is more likely to develop a sociable, confident, affectionate and well-balanced temperament. That is why, for us, well-being is not an added extra in breeding. It is where everything begins.

Health before beauty

.Health is one of the core pillars of Sendas Antiguas.

Our cats receive high-quality nutrition, individualised care and regular veterinary monitoring. We carry out health screenings and genetic testing to support the responsible selection of our breeding cats.

Our cats are tested for FIV and FeLV, as well as Calicivirus and Herpesvirus.

We also carry out the relevant genetic tests for hereditary conditions associated with the Maine Coon, including HCM, PKDef and SMA.

For us, genetics is not a secondary consideration. It plays an essential role in the decisions we make when planning our pairings and selecting the cats that will become part of our breeding programme.

Out kittens

Every birth marks the beginning of a new story.

From the moment they are born, our kittens receive individual attention and stay with their mother and siblings throughout their early stages of development. We observe their progress, growth and personalities, allowing them to develop at their own pace.

We don’t believe in separating a kitten from its mother simply because it has reached a certain age. Every kitten develops at its own pace, and their well-being must always come before any schedule.

Our kittens go to their new homes from 12 weeks of age, always taking into account their individual development and readiness to join their new family.

They leave us properly dewormed, with the vaccinations appropriate for their age, identified by microchip, and accompanied by a pet passport, a veterinary health certificate and all the relevant documentation.

Their pedigree certificate will be provided once it has been duly registered by our club.

But there is something far more important than any document: every kitten leaves having received time, care, socialisation and love.

A Maine Coon for a Lifetime

When one of our kittens joins a new family, our responsibility doesn’t end. Quite the opposite.

We’ve been there from the very beginning, witnessing their first steps, getting to know their personalities and being part of their growth and development.

That’s why it matters so much to us who will be waiting for them when the time comes to leave.

We want families who understand that a Maine Coon isn’t an impulse purchase or a decorative accessory. It’s a commitment for many years and a new member of the family.

We’re looking for homes where our little ones will be loved, respected and cared for as they deserve. And we love to remain part of their story long after they leave Sendas Antiguas.

Because, to us, breeding is about more than simply bringing cats into the world. It means caring for every life entrusted to us, respecting the breed we love and striving to make each generation better than the last.
